The iWave iW-Rainbow-G57M is a new System on Module (SOM) based on the AMD series

The iWave iW-Rainbow-G57M is a new System on Module (SOM) based on the AMD series, designed to power artificial intelligence (AI) applications from the edge to the endpoint. The SOM features the Versal AI Edge series to deliver AI performance/watt in the industry and provide the AI acceleration required for applications ranging from advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and robotics to medical imaging.

The Versal AI Edge-based SOM is compatible with VE2302/VE2202/VE2102/VE2002 chips. The SOM is integrated with 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 12GB EMMC and 256MB QSPI Flash. Two high-speed expansion connectors and 122 user configurable IOs enable multiple interfaces.

The Versal SOM supports connectivity options, such as 28.21Gbytes per second high-speed transceiver blocks to support all necessary protocols in edge applications, 40G multi-rate Ethernet, PCIe, and native MIPI support for vision sensors, which are said to be a must for advanced AI applications.

The Versal AI Edge is claimed to provide the capability to run larger models and faster inference engines on the Edge. It combines scalar engines (Arm Cortex A72 Cores applications processor and Arm Cortex R5 core for real-time processing and control), enabling computing for complex algorithms while enabling high levels of safety and security. With the SOM, it is claimed customers can build their Edge AI solution with reduced development cost, risk and time. The SOM provides the flexibility and scalability features of the Versal Edge AI series.

The iW-Rainbow-G57M SOM includes up to 328K Logic cells and 150K LUTs, up to 45 TOPA(INT4) AI compute and programmable Network on Chip (NoC).

There are also up to 8GB LPDDR4, up to 128GB eMMC, 256MB QSPI, eight GTYP transceiver support (VE2302 & VE2202) and GTYP support for PCIe Gen4 or 40G multi-rate Ethernet MAC.

It also includes two 240-pin high-speed connectors, one GbE, one RGMII, one USB, one CAN FD, one PMC, I2C, one SD, one UART and one JTAG.

The FPGA XPIO is 51 LVDS/102 SE, the FPGA HDIO is 20 SE and the form factor: measures 50 x 60mm.

It is an industrial-grade SOM with product longevity of 10 to 15 years.

The company claims the SOM is an ideal fit for applications such as lidar, radar and robotics.

Developers can get started using the Versal AI Edge evaluation kit. iWave supports development tools for hardware and software development such as the Vivado design tool, Vitis unified software, frameworks, and accelerated libraries for target applications. iWave also provides custom design and manufacturing services around the SOM.
