Toshiba expands hard drive capacities for gaming and NAS
16Tbyte helium-sealed models are being added to the N300 network-attached storage (NAS) hard drive and X300 performance hard drive series. The 16Tbyte models offer 14 per cent more capacity than 14Tbytes and also double the buffer size of the 14Tbyte models.
The 16Tbyte N300 and X300 series use a nine-disk helium-sealed design, delivering increased storage density with a lower hard drive operating power profile. Toshiba laser welding technology and case design keep the helium securely sealed inside the industry-standard 3.5-inch drive enclosure, adds Toshiba, to improve power efficiency at new levels of storage capacity and density.
The additional hard drives are designed to meet the evolving storage needs for performance, gaming and office NAS applications, enabling gamers and NAS users to efficiently store and access even larger amounts of data.
The N300 series is suitable for home office and small business NAS and private cloud storage, supporting up to eight drive bays. They are designed for 24/7 operation, with a workload rating of up to 180Tbyte per year, 7200rpm performance and integrated sensors to compensate the effect of rotational vibrations.
The X300 series is designed for PC and high-end desktop workstations. It delivers 7200rpm performance, drive stabilisation technologies for improved reliability and Toshiba Group’s cache technology to optimise cache allocation during read/write to provide high-level performance in real time.
The N300 series includes a three-year limited warranty, and the X300 series has a two-year limited warranty. The 16Tbyte N300 and X300 models are expected to be available in Q4 2019.
