TTI Europe adds industrial mini I/O connector range from TE Connectivity

Electronic component distributor, TTI has announced that it is now stocking the industrial Mini-I/O connectors from TE Connectivity. The Mini I/O connectors provide “excellent vibration, shock and EMI resistance” said the distributor. They are provided in a compact size, and are reliable for use in rugged industrial applications, especially in industrial IoT (IIOT) and collaborative robotics (co-bots).

According to TTI Europe, TE Connectivity’s Mini I/O connectors offer superior performance over traditional RJ45 connectors in industrial environments, particularly in applications such as motor drives that are susceptible to shock and vibration. When equipment vibrates or shakes, contacts typically move but the design of the Mini-I/O has two separate contact points, so that if the contacts move, at least one point always remains connected to avoid complete signal interruption.

As a result, the Mini I/O connectors have good signal integrity and the connections support power over Ethernet (PoE), PoE+, PoE++ (IEEE802.3at and IEEE802.3bt), with data rates from 10Mbits per second up to 10Gbits per second. The mini connectors have 360 degree metal shielding for EMI performance.

Mini I/O connectors are also able to offer space savings in designs, because they are 25 per cent of the size of a traditional RJ45 plug. They can save critical space on a PCB and are a compact wire-to-board connector system for industrial communications. For example, advised TTI Europe, the connectors are suitable for robotics applications which have limited interior space and control cabinets where space is a constraint.

Mini-I/O cable assemblies are compatible with existing systems and have been designed to connect Mini-I/O to Mini-I/O and Mini-I/O to RJ45 as required by the application. This also enables easy retrofitting where needed. The connectors can be fitted in-situ simply on eight or four-wire legacy cabling, without special tools.

They are also easy to install, an operation which can be done in less than a minute, since they support automatic wire cut-off, rather than having to terminate the wires with soldering, said TTI Europe.

The portfolio of industrial Mini I/O connectors consists of various board and cable connectors, including jack, plug or receptacle styles, and cable-to-board or cable-to-cable connector systems.
