TTI Europe stocks Amphenol’s IP67 M8 SPE connectors
Electronic component distributor, TTI Europe, is now stocking Amphenol IP67 M8 single pair Ethernet (SPE) connectors for rugged industrial applications. According to TTI Europe, they offer engineers uninterrupted connectivity from remote field devices to the cloud for increased uptime, but with the benefit of a small M8-sized interface to reduce the size of equipment. (The M8 interface is also approximately a third of the size of an M12 connector.)
SPE cables simplify the process of connecting and powering edge devices by extending the range and bandwidth of a single twisted pair. The cable supports power over data lines (PoDL) to 52W so both data and power can be delivered via a single wire pair. Data transfer is fast at 1Gbit per second per twisted pair as well as a data rate of 1000BASE-T1.
The SPE cable is up to 60 per cent lighter in weight than a standard four-pair CAT 6 cable, which also allows engineers to reduce the weight on the equipment using the connection technology.
The mechanical interfaces are designed and made according to IEEE802.3bp and are reliable in harsh industrial environments, said TTI Europe. The IP67 M8 connection has a vibration resistance in the frequency of 10 to 2,000Hz and protects against the ingress of dust and liquids, including submersion in water up to one metre in depth.
Amphenol’s SPE cables are available shielded or unshielded, and there are four connector options; M8 (screw thread), M12 (screw thread and push-pull), FLOS+ (push-pull) and X-Lok (push-lock). The cables and connections are rugged for use in heavy duty equipment across a range of industries including renewable energy, railway and mass transit, industrial automation and automotive, advised the company.
“SPE is fast becoming recognised as the cable of choice in industrial IoT (IIoT) applications as it provides significant connectivity advantages compared to standard four-pair CAT 6 cables,” says Markus Lorenz, director industry marketing, in TTI Europe’s Industrial Europe group. The SPE cables are part of TTI Europe’s 2022 Smart Factory – Industrial Network initiative, he added.
