TTI to supply three-in-one hybrid connectors from Weidmüller

Now available in Europe through distributor TTI are Weidmülller’s Omnimate family of hybrid connectors. The Omnimate connectors are designed to replace three individual components and reduce three separate operations to one.

The innovative design integrates signal contacts inside a core power connector, which is supplied with pluggable cable shielding and a one-handed safety lock. A typical application for this hybrid connector is to provide the link between a frequency convertor or servo controller and a motor. Previously, to connect the cable, three plug-in connectors were required: a power connector for the motor connection, a signal connector for capturing the motor feedback and shielding to protect data traffic from electromagnetic interference.

The design of the Omnimate hybrid connectors takes into account the needs of applications such as motor control so that the three connection functions could be built into a single and complete solution.

The products enable simultaneous, safe and ‘blind’ connection of power and signal cabling as well as the shielding. The one-handed safety interlock ensures the connector can be snapped into place automatically. The integration of these functions enables intuitive and tool-free operation, as well as permanent secure contact, even under difficult installation conditions.

Within the connector assembly, the pluggable hybrid shield support features a special EMC spring-contact strip that ensures the shield connection to the housing is permanent, vibration-proof and covers a large surface area. It allows the shielding braid from the power and signal wires to be connected separately but in one step so that signal integrity is not dependent on user skill.

The hybrid connectors fulfil touch-safe protection according to IEC/UL 61800-5-1. The devices are available as an option with openable and adjustable “pushers” and contact points.

At TTI, the hybrid connectors join a wide range of interconnect, passive and electromechanical components.
