TVS diodes protect while saving PCB space

Electronics can be protected from voltage transients and surge lightning events in space-constrained designs, says Littelfuse, at the introduction of the 8.0SMDJ series.

The higher surge TVS diodes are offered in a DO-214AB package to save board space. They provide 8,000W peak pulse power dissipation.

The 8.0SMDJ series offers circuit designers high-surge, space-saving circuit protection that can simplify printed circuit board design and improve reliability significantly, claims Littelfuse.

The diodes can be used in data centres, industrial equipment, home appliances, consumer electronics, for AC and DC protection, power over Ethernet (PoE) protection and low-speed, outdoor port protection.

The uni-directional and bi-directional 8.0SMDJ series TVS diodes deliver higher surge protection than currently available alternatives, in a small DO-214AB SMC package, says Littelfuse. They can be used for DC12V, DC24V, and DC48V applications, singly or two in a series.

Meng Wang, global product manager power TVS at Littelfuse, explained: “The combination of a high power TVS diode in a compact footprint means circuit designers can conserve precious board space for design optimisation opportunities including increased power density and higher production efficiency.”

The 8.0SMDJ Series TVS Diodes offers higher power protection from voltage transients and surge lightning events as well as “excellent clamping performance” for increased reliability of sensitive electronics.

It also offers high power density in a compact, low profile DO-214AB package which  allows for quick and easy PCB layout and PCBA assembly while conserving valuable board space.

It can replace AC side and DC side metal oxide varistors (MOVs) with a device that provides better reliability, accurate clamping, and fast response time, compared to MOVs, confirmed Littelfuse.

The 8.0SMDJ series TVS Diodes are available now in tape and reel format. Sample requests may be placed through authorised Littelfuse distributors worldwide.

Littelfuse manufactures circuit protection, power control and sensing devices. Its products are sold in over 150 countries, for use in automotive and commercial vehicles, industrial applications, data and telecommunications, medical devices, consumer electronics and appliances.
