Upgrade to managed PoE switches double power to connected devices

Offering twice the power to more connected devices located in harsh, condensed operating spaces, the Octopus OS24/34 PoE switches have been released by Belden.

The upgraded Hirschmann Octopus OS24/34 with 120W power over Ethernet (PoE) sourcing capability extend the total power supply budget to connect more network devices.

Today’s network devices, such as IP cameras, require less energy to operate than those previously available, says the company. The number of connected devices across a network, however, is increasing rapidly due to the increased reach of the industrial IoT. As a result, engineers need more power to meet evolving network demands. Belden extended the switches’ total power budget, while maintaining the robust, industrially hardened design, that can be used in harsh environments.

The Octopus OS24/34 managed PoE switches save cost and space with cabinet-less mounting and 120W PoE for reduced cabling to end devices. Variants in the series offer a choice of port counts, housing sizes and software features.

The robust design can withstand harsh conditions, are qualified to IP67 and IP65 ratings and are resistance to extreme temperatures, high vibration, water and dust.

Engineers and system integrators can use the switches in industrial settings, especially in rail environments, as the devices meet required international standards for use on-board and along tracks.

Other markets include manufacturing, machine building, automotive, rail-rolling stock, and other transportation environments, including mass transit systems, traffic control systems, and rail and train stations.
