Waterproof split cable gland routes and seals cables

Electromechanical component distributor, Foremost Electronics, has added the Icotek KVT-ER IP66/IP68 approved split cable gland. According to the company, it sets new standards in connectorised cable routing.

The KVT-ER cable gland is a liquid- and dust-proof (sealed to IP66 and IP68). It is rugged and easy-to-install and is designed for routing, sealing and strain relief of cables with or without pre-assembled connectors

Icotek’s split design enables routing and sealing cables with connectors or complete cable harnesses. It will also accept electric, pneumatic or hydraulic lines without terminals or connectors and allows corrugated conduits to be easily routed into control panels, enclosures or machinery and then sealed and strain relieved.

Up to four lines, ranging in diameter from 1.0 to 16mm, or one line from 16 to 35mm, can be routed and sealed with the KVT-ER cable gland. The maximum dimensions of the routed pre-assembled connectors depend on the metric cut-out sizes, not on the split cable grommets. The split design of the gland facilitates simple retrofitting, repairs and maintenance as it is simple to assemble around the routed lines. The KVT-ER sizes are based on standard metric panel cut-outs M32, M50 and M63. Hexagonal lock nuts are included in the package.

Due to the high contact pressure, injected elastomer gasket and the use of KT single-hole cable grommets, the KVT-ER cable gland meets IP65, IP66, IP67 and IP68 protection ratings. In addition the KVT-ER cable gland enables strain relief on the routed cables according to EN 62444. Foremost adds that NEMA TYPE 12 / 4X and c UR US certifications are currently in progress

A modern design for the Icotek KVT-ER cable gland enhances the aesthetics of the end system design maintains Foremost. The company offers a warranty of pre-terminated cables, retrofits, simple and fast repairs and maintenance, high cable density, a robust housing, which is vibration resistant, flame resistance to UL94-V0 self-extinguishing, and an operating temperature range of – 30 to +110 degree C. The cable gland is halogen-free and silicone-free.

In order to achieve the certified protection ratings and still be able to offer the highest flexibility in cable diameters, single-hole cables may be used and are available over a diameter range of one to 35mm. Unused grommets can be sealed with plugs ensuring the protection ratings are retained. For routing of D-sub connectors Icotek offers special KGM lock nuts with specific cut-outs.

Direct earthing of electromagnetic interference (EMI) at the point of entry (e.g. at the enclosure or machine wall) is possible by using the KVT-EMC shield clamp bracket. As a result, the cable gland size KVT-ER 32 is also a cost-effective alternative to expensive EMC cable glands.

Applications for Icotek products include machine tools, railway technology, wind turbines, solar technology, vehicle construction and packaging machines, automation and robotics.
