Ultrasonic sensor disks from TDK meet automotive and industrial needs

Ceramic-based Epcos ultrasonic sensor disks have been announced by TDK. There are two standard types, the B59050Z0206A030 and the B59070Z0285D12.

The B59050Z0206A030 sensor disk has a diameter of 5.0mm and thickness of 1.02mm. With a serial resonance frequency of 2000kHz it features thickness oscillation mode (axial), making is suitable for use in liquid media. The B59070Z0285D12 has a diameter of 7.0mm and a thickness of 0.195mm. It offers a radial mode of oscillation at 285kHz, and is suitable for operation in air.

The RoHS-compatible sensor disks can be used in automotive and industrial applications. For example, in automotive electronics, they can be used in park-assist or blind spot monitoring systems, level sensing for fuel or selective catalytic reduction (SCR) tanks, as well as interior monitoring for anti-theft systems. In industrial electronics applications, the sensor disks allow flow metering of fluids or gases and sense the level of fluids or bulk materials. The sensor disks are also suitable for collision avoidance systems in automated guided vehicles. In addition to the standard types, application-specific versions can also be manufactured.

Electronics company, TDK, is based in Tokyo, Japan. It was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. TDK’s portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The product spectrum also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors.

TDK also provides power supplies and energy devices and magnetic heads. Products are marketed under the brands TDK, Epcos, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda. Markets served are information and communication technology and automotive, industrial and consumer electronics. The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America.
