Aaeon adds security to SBC’s high-speed connectivity for network and edge

The FWS-2360 desktop network security appliance has Intel QuickAssist Technology (QAT) and the speed and efficiency of fibre cable ports, says Aaeon. The compact and extendable module is designed for use in small office, homeoffice (SOHO) businesses as well as domestic networks, and vCPE and edge applications.

It has a pair of fibre/copper SFP Gbit Ethernet (GbE) ports, four conventional GbE ports and two mini-card slots to accommodate Wi-Fi and 4G LTE expansion.

The system’s bypass function ensures that network traffic will continue to flow in the event of software complications or loss of power, reassures Aaeon. Further expansion capabilities are provided by an mSATA socket and a SATA III port with a 2.5-inch HDD bay, giving customers a choice of mass storage possibilities.

Fitted with an Intel Atom Processor C3000 Series CPU (formerly Denverton), Aaeon’s FWS-2360 is a powerful and energy-efficient network appliance. The Intel QAT enables it to encrypt and compress data with greater speed and security while simultaneously performing other processing tasks.

The unit has a fanless design and a single-screw chassis, making it reliable and easy to maintain, says Aaeon. There are optional 1U rack-mount brackets to increase adaptability by allowing the desktop device to be installed in server cabinets.

Aaeon also produces an entry-level alternative, the FWS-2273. This is powered by the Intel Celeron N3350 processor (formerly Apollo Lake). It does not have QAT but still provides a high level of network security, says Aaeon, and still has the performance benefits of fibre optic technology.

Established in 1992, Aaeon designs and manufactures intelligent IoT devices. Committed to innovative engineering, Aaeon provides computing platforms, including industrial motherboards and systems, industrial displays, rugged tablets, embedded controllers, network appliances and related accessories, as well as integrated solutions. Aaeon also has the hardware and services for OEMs/ODMs and system integrators, worldwide. The company is an associate member of the Intel Internet of Things Solutions Alliance.
