Bus transceivers from Toshiba support low-voltage level shifting

Toshiba has expanded its 74AVC series lineup of dual-supply bus transceivers with four new 1-bit products, 74AVC1T45NX, 74AVCH1T45NX, 74AVC1T45FU, and 74AVCH1T45FU, and two new 2-bit products, 74AVC2T45FK and 74AVCH2T45FK. The products can be used for bidirectional level-shifting between 0.7V or 0.8V and up to 3.6V without the need for additional components, simplifying communication between low-voltage SoCs and conventional-voltage industrial, consumer, and enterprise systems.

The devices employ a push-pull buffer configuration to enable high-speed operation, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including UART, GPIO, and SPI communication interfaces. In addition to Toshiba’s existing 4-bit products housed in TSSOP16B packages, these new smaller bit configurations come in smaller package variation, such as the leadless XSON6, and the leaded SOT-363 (US6) and SOT-765 (US8), providing engineers flexibility in system design.

The 74AVC series supports dual power supplies without any power-on/off sequence restrictions. They use a directional-control method with DIR pins and a high-impedance control method with power-supply pins, which prevent contention on complex signal lines and enhance system reliability. These features simplify power-on sequence design and help reduce the risk of malfunction.

The 74AVCH series additionally includes an internal bus-hold function that prevents undefined states and allows stable signal retention, reducing external components such as pull-up and pull-down resistors.
