Cadence employs parallel architecture to increase modelling accuracy

Massively parallel architecture used in the Fidelity CFD (computational fluid dynamics) software reduces turnaround time from weeks to a day or less for complex aerospace, automotive, defence, marine and turbomachinery analyses, says Cadence Design Systems.

Fidelity CFD delivers a new level of accuracy for multiphysics simulation, says Cadence. The suite introduces a flow solver featuring high-order numerics, scale-resolving simulations and massive hardware acceleration, which together, claims Cadence, boost performance and accelerate turnaround time without sacrificing accuracy.

Fidelity CFD includes specialised flow solvers for marine and turbomachinery applications. It also has general-purpose flow solvers for a broad range of flow types. Engineers can used the software to address wind noise around road vehicles, expand the flight envelope of next-generation aircraft designs, optimise the power generated by wind and gas turbines and cut fuel consumption of marine vessels, all while maintaining high accuracy and dramatically reducing turnaround time.

Fidelity CFD software’s high-order flow solver with advanced simulations of fluid turbulence has demonstrated the ability to predict aerodynamic drag on an automobile up to 10X more accurately than a traditional CFD solver, Cadence reports. In addition, the turnaround time for these simulations can be reduced from weeks to a day or less.

Fidelity CFD is based on the meshing expertise from the former NUMECA and Pointwise teams, which came under the Cadence umbrella when they were acquired in January and April 2021, respectively. Geometry and meshing can consume up to 75 per cent of a CFD engineer’s time, observes Cadence. The release of Fidelity Pointwise Meshing accelerates the technique used for meshing the flow field around commercial and military aircraft and space launch vehicles by up to 3X, Cadence says and NUMECA Autoseal and Hexpress are used in the automotive and yacht industries.

Cadence has been operating in the electronic systems design sector for more than 30 years, based on its computational software expertise. The company applies its underlying Intelligent System Design strategy to deliver software, hardware and IP to customers, delivering products from chips to boards to complete systems for hyperscale computing, 5G communications, automotive, mobile, aerospace, consumer, industrial and healthcare markets.
