CeraLink capacitors are now available from TDK in EIA 2220 sizes

CeraLink capacitors are now available from TDK in options other than the large, ready-to-fit sizes. Now, smaller versions with the classic chip design are included in the portfolio, beginning with the EIA 2220 size (5.7 x 5.0 x 1.4mm). These B58043 capacitors are intended for 500V applications and offer a capacitance of 250nF with very low parasitic co-efficients, said TDK.

The new capacitors are available with both standard and soft termination. TDK said it will be adding further designs and voltage classes in due course.

At room temperature, the ESR of the B58043 capacitors is just 40 mOhm at 1.0MHz while the ESL is 3nH, with the values even lower at higher temperatures. Lead inductance is also low, said the company. A high current capability of up to 9.0A RMS is achieved at 200kHz and 25 degrees C ambient temperature. The permissible temperature range lies between – 40 and +150 degrees C.

Typical applications use the smaller designs in either snubber or output capacitors. The smaller dimensions of the new CeraLink surface mount variant enable it to be placed even closer to fast switching power semiconductors like IGBT modules, SiC-based or GaN-based semiconductors, advised TDK.

CeraLink capacitors are based on PLZT ceramics (lead lanthanum zirconate titanate). In contrast to conventional ceramic capacitors, their maximum capacitance is at operating voltage and even increases as the proportion of the ripple voltage increases.

TDK was established in 1935 to commercialise ferrite, a key material in electronic and magnetic products. TDK’s comprehensive portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The portfolio also includes sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors and power supplies. Products are marketed under the brands TDK, EPCOS, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda. TDK focuses on markets in automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, and information and communication technology.

The company has a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America.
