Dual N-channel 60V MOSFET boosts efficiency for bi-directional switching

Claimed to feature the best-in-class RS-S(on), the Vishay Siliconix SiSF20DN is a  new common-drain dual N-channel 60V MOSFET available in the compact, thermally enhanced PowerPAK 1212-8SCD package from Vishay Intertechnology.

It is designed to increase power density and efficiency in battery management systems, plug-in and wireless chargers, DC/DC converters, and power supplies, and is claimed to offer the industry’s lowest RS-S(on) in a 60V common-drain device.

It provides RS-S(on) down to 10 mOhm (typical) at 10V, believed to be the lowest among 60V devices in the 3.0 x 3.0mm footprint. This value also represents a 42.5 per cent improvement over the next best device in this footprint size and is 89 per cent lower than Vishay’s previous-generation devices. The result is reduced voltage drops across the power path and minimised power losses. For higher power density, the SiSF20DN’s RS1S2(on) times area is 46.6 per cent lower than the next best alternative MOSFET, even when including larger 6.0 x 5.0mm devices.

To save PCB space, reduce component counts and simplify designs, the device uses an optimised package construction with two monolithically integrated TrenchFET Gen IV N-channel MOSFETs in a common drain configuration. The SiSF20DN’s source contacts are placed side by side, with enlarged connections to increase the contact area with the PCB and reduce resistivity compared to conventional dual package types. According to Vishay, this design makes the MOSFET suitable for bi-directional switching in 24V systems and industrial applications, including factory automation, robotics, security/surveillance, drones, motor drives, white goods, power tools and smoke alarms.

The SiSF20DN is 100 per cent Rg- and UIS-tested, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free.

Samples and production quantities of the SiSF20DN MOSFET are available now, with lead times of 30 weeks for larger orders.

Vishay Intertechnology is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infra red optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors) which are used in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.
