Harwin adds compact Gecko-SL to off-the-shelf cable assemblies
Projects can be completed sooner, without tooling expense or allocation of engineering resources, says Harwin, with the addition of products to its ready-made, high-reliability cable assemblies.
The Gecko Screw-Lok (Gecko-SL) is a 1.25mm connector family that builds on the options already available using the company’s Datamate products. A wider range of cable assemblies can be sourced, avoiding any upfront investment in equipment and staff training costs to carry out such work in-house, says Harwin.
Available in both single- and double-ended arrangements, the Gecko-SL cable assemblies comply with the IPC-620 cable and wire harnessing industry standard. They can be specified for either cable-to-cable or cable-to-board implementations.
Each cable has a 26AWG wire gauge PTFE construction, and comes in 150, 300 or 450mm (six-, 12- or 18-inch) lengths. The assemblies are compatible with existing metal backshells, for both mechanical robustness and strong EMC resilience. Hexagon-slotted screw fixings and mate-before-lock mechanism mean the rugged assemblies are straightforward to deploy, says Harwin, especially in space-constrained environments. They have the inherent resilience that Gecko-SL connectors exhibit to high degrees of shock/vibration and extreme temperatures, as well as their relatively strong current carrying capacity (2A per contact, despite the narrow pitch), continues Harwin.
Customers can choose from six to 50 pin arrays for assemblies. All are available from stock, either from Harwin or through the company’s global network of distribution partners. There are no lead times to factor in which threaten to delay end system production, says Harwin. Fixing hardware is provided – either directly or as part of the backshell kit.
All supplied assemblies are continuity checked. This streamlines the system integration process, saving customers time and effort. Evaluation samples of the assemblies are available on request.
Harwin produces high reliability interconnect products for the defence, aerospace, space, industrial, oil and gas and motorsport sectors. Over the course of the last 65 years, the company has set benchmarks in innovation, automation and service, through ongoing investment in advanced equipment and staff training. Harwin’s team of highly skilled engineers have been responsible for developing connector products such as the Gecko (1.25mm pitch), Datamate (2mm pitch), Mix-Tek (combined signal, power and coax) and high temperature M300 (3mm pitch) product lines.
