High energy, wet tantalum capacitor has multiple terminations for mil-aero

High energy wet tantalum capacitors from Vishay Intertechnology are now available with new ratings in B and C case codes for design flexibility in military and avionics systems.

The EP1 wet tantalum capacitors are claimed to offer the industry’s highest capacitance per Voltage rating and case size for this device type. The capacitors are available with radial through-hole or surface-mount terminations in the A, B, and C case codes, each with a stud-mount option, for increased design flexibility, explains Vishay Intertechnology.

Built on Vishay’s proven SuperTan technology, the enhanced EP1 capacitors now feature high capacitance from 3,600 to 40,000 microF in the B case code and 5,300 to 58,000 microF in the C case code. Voltage ratings for the device range from 25 to 125V DC. The EP1’s capacitance of 12,000 microF at 80V in the C case size, is 33 per cent greater than the closest competing device, according to Vishay Intertechnology. The capacitors feature a standard capacitance tolerance of ± 20 per cent, with ± 10 per cent tolerance available.

The EP1 capacitors are optimised for pulse power and energy hold-up applications in laser guidance, radar, and avionics systems. The EP1 capacitors are housed in all-tantalum, hermetically sealed cases for increased reliability. They operate over a wide temperature range of -55 to +85 degrees C, to +125 degrees C with voltage derating. They provide maximum ESR down to 0.015 Ohm at 1kHz and +25 degrees C. The capacitor is available with tin / lead (Sn / Pb) and RoHS-compliant 100 per cent tin terminations.

Samples and production quantities of the EP1 B and C case are available now, with lead times of 16 weeks for larger orders.
