High SOA MOSFETs are designed for 48V hot swap telecomms

150V MOSFETs with low on-resistance and a high safe operating area (SOA) capability has been released by Alpha and Omega Semiconductor. The AOTL66518 and AOB66518L are designed for demanding applications in telcomms hot swap applications.

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor designed the MOSFETs with a low on state resistance and a robust linear mode performance. Combined with the SOA, the MOSFETs manage telecomms which demand performance, reliability, and quality operation. The AOTL66518 and AOB66518L have a maximum junction temperature of up to 175 degrees C. They also protect the load by limiting high in rush currents in soft-start, eFuse, and hot swap conditions.

The AOTL66518 is robust, with a 150V MOSFET in a TOLL package. A TOLL package offers a 30 per cent smaller footprint than a TO-263 (D2PAK) package, says AOS, and has a higher current capability due to clip technology. AOTL66518 has a very low thermal resistance from silicon junction to the bottom of the package case (Rthjc) compared to TO-263. According to AOS, these features enable telecomms designers to reduce the number of MOSFETs in parallel.

“High reliability and robust linear mode performance are critical metrics in telecommunications,” said AOS’ Peter H Wilson. “The AOTL66518 and AOB66518L have high SOA with low on-resistance to meet these demanding requirements,” he added.

The AOTL66518 and AOB66518L are immediately available in production quantities with a lead-time of 16 weeks.

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor (AOS) designs, develops and supplies a broad range of power semiconductors, including power MOSFETs, IGBTs, IPMs, TVS, HVICs, SiC/GaN, power ICs and digital power products.

AOS has developed intellectual property (IP) and technical knowledge that encompasses advances in the power semiconductor industry, enabling the company to address the increasingly complex power requirements of advanced electronics.

AOS differentiates itself by integrating its dscrete and IC semiconductor process technology, product design, and packaging expertise to develop high performance power management. AOS’s portfolio of products targets high volume applications, including portable computers, flat-panel TVs, LED lighting, smartphones, battery packs, consumer and industrial motor controls, automotive electronics, and power supplies for TVs, computers, servers, and telecommunications equipment.
