Integrated fans make CUS400M supplies suitable for medical use

Additional models of 15, 19, 28, 36, 48V output power supplies and integral fan-cooled versions to the CUS400M series ensure the power supplies are suitable for hospital beds, dental chairs and incubators.

TDK-Lambda has added the five output options and models with an integral fan. The CUS400M family now covers 12 to 48V outputs. There is a choice of mechanical configurations available, including open frame versions in the industry-standard 3.0 x 5.0 inches (76 x 127mm) footprint.

When convection cooled, the CUS400M has a peak power capability of up to 400W. The duration period of that peak is up to 30 minutes (40 degrees C ambient, 230V AC input) with a maximum duty cycle of 50 per cent, which is considerably longer than most products on the market, says TDK-Lambda. This feature ensures a relatively low quiescent power consumption and occasional peak demand, including hospital beds, dental chairs and incubators, advises the company.

The CUS400M has an 85 to 264V AC input range and an off-load power consumption of less than 1.3W, when the output is inhibited. As an option, the units can be fitted with a 5V 2A or 12V 1A standby voltage, remote on/off, remote sense, AC fail and an output good signal.

The underside of the CUS400M is fitted into a thermally conductive, insulated plastic base (patent pending). This allows heat-generating power components to be conduction cooled via a cold plate or the system chassis. Other mechanical configurations include a metal baseplate, U-channel, enclosed or integral top-mounted fan.

The medical and industrial safety certifications include IEC/EN/ES 60601‑1 and IEC/EN/UL 62368‑1 with CE marking for the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS directives. The units also comply with EN 55011‑B and EN 55032‑B conducted and radiated emissions (Class I and II), and meet the EN 61000‑3‑2 harmonics, IEC 60601‑1‑2 Edition 4 and IEC 61000‑4 immunity standards.

Input to output isolation is 4000V AC (2 x MOPP), input to ground isolation 1500V AC (1 x MoPP) and the output to ground isolation is 1500V AC (1 x MOPP) for suitability in B and BF-rated medical equipment. Leakage current is a maximum of 250 microA, and the touch current is less than 100 microA. The operating, transportation and storage altitude is up to 5000m.
