Integrated MOSFET PowerPair increases power density for medical equipment

Offered in a space saving PowerPair 3.3 x 3.3mm package, the Vishay Siliconix SiZ240DT provides best in class on resistance and on resistance time gate charge, says Vishay Intertechnology.

The 40V n-channel MOSFET half bridge power stage delivers increased power density and efficiency for white goods and industrial, medical and telecomms applications.

The two high and low side TrenchFET MOSFETs in the SiZ240DT are internally connected in a half-bridge configuration. The Channel 1 MOSFET, which is typically used as the control switch in a synchronous buck converter, provides maximum on-resistance of 8.05mOhm at 10V and 12.25mOhm at 4.5V. The Channel 2 MOSFET, which is typically a synchronous switch, features on-resistance of 8.41mOhm at 10V and 13.30mOhm at 4.5V. These values are up to 16 per cent lower than those of the closest competing products, confirms Vishay. When combined with low gate charge of 6.9nC (Channel 1) and 6.5nC (Channel 2), the on resistance times gate charge figure of merit (FOM) is 14 per cent lower than the next best device, says Vishay, enabling higher efficiency for fast switching applications.

The dual MOSFET is 65 per cent smaller than dual devices in 6.0 x 5.0mm packages, and is claimed to be one of the most compact integrated products on the market today. The SiZ240DT saves space in motor controls in non-implantable medical devices, home and office automation equipment as well as in drones, vacuum cleaners and power tools. In addition to half bridge power stages for synchronous buck DC/DC converters, wireless chargers, and switch mode power supplies in telecomms equipment and servers.

The integrated MOSFET features a wire-free internal construction that minimises parasitic inductance to enable high frequency switching and thus reduce the size of magnetics and final designs. Its optimised Qgd / Qgs ratio reduces noise to further enhance the device’s switching characteristics. The SiZ240DT is 100 per cent Rg- and UIS-tested, RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Samples and production quantities of the new dual MOSFET are available now, with lead times of 12 weeks for large orders.
