Integrated phototriac reduces external component count and costs

Eliminating the need for external triacs and snubber networks, the VO2223B is robust for home appliances and industrial equipment, says Vishay Intertechnology.

The 1.0A integrated power phototriac is designed to directly drive medium AC loads. The Vishay Semiconductor device has high dv/dt to 600V per micro seconds.

It consists of an optically coupled phototriac driving an integrated power triac in the compact DIP format. Without the need for an external power triac, the VO2223B reduces design costs and saves board space, says Vishay. The high dv/dt enhances safety margins to eliminate requirements for expensive snubber networks.

The VO2223B power phototriac features a high blocking voltage of 600V to allow control of off-line voltages up to 240V AC and is sufficient for as much as 380V AC. For additional safety, the device offers an input-to-output isolation voltage of 5300V. A low 10mA maximum input trigger current facilitates an easy interface with digital logic.

The VO2223B is optimised for noisy environments. Typical applications include fan motor, valve, and pump control in air conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters, washing machines, and oven ranges, as well as smart home thermostats, intelligent light controllers, floor heating systems, and magnetic door controls.

The device has pure tin leads and is RoHS-compliant.

Samples and production quantities of the VO2223B power phototriac are available now, with lead times of six weeks.

Vishay Intertechnology manufactures discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infrared optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors). These components are used in assorted types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.
