Littelfuse expands 800V solid state relay in Flatpack package
Extending the OptoMos family of solid state relays, the 800V PLA172P is Littelfuse’s highest voltage rating in a surface mount SSR Flatpack package. The normally open, single pole, six-pin solid state relay is also the first solid state relay in the Littelfuse product portfolio that comes with guaranteed electrical parameters at 105 degrees C ambient operating temperature.
The PLA172P extends the OptoMos family’s operational temperature range from 85 degrees C up to 105 degrees C, enabling hardware engineers to precisely design their circuits at very challenging temperatures, says Littelfuse.
The high voltage rating, high temperature range in a surface-mountable packaging is recommended for industrial and medical applications, instrumentation, isolation test equipment, battery isolation monitors and industrial solar field isolation monitors.
According to Littelfuse, one of the key benefits of the PLA172P OptoMos relay is that it replaces electromechanical relays (EMRs) that are bulky and prone to failing drop tests.
It also has a device pinout which provides more than 6.8mm of pad-to-pad separation between the high voltage output pins. This prevents arcing.
The PLA172P has 5000V RMS input-to-output isolation and a low input control current of 5mA over the operating temperature range.
It is particularly suitable for isolation current monitor circuits which have voltages above 400V and which require high blocking voltage, low off-state leakage current relays with high input-to-output isolation rating to prevent potential lethal current conduction to the system chassis. The PLA172P relay’s 800V load voltage rating with 100mA load current capability provides additional design margin compared to the more common 600V solid state relays, particularly on noisy AC power line applications and high voltage battery applications. The 105 degree C specifications, the low 5.0 microA maximum off-state leakage current rating and low on resistance combine to make the PLA172P particularly suitable for high precision isolation current monitor applications, says Littelfuse.
