Murata releases thin LW reversed, low ESL chip MLCCs for ADAS applications

The LLC152D70G105ME01 is a decoupling capacitor from Murata which is designed for automotive applications. The thin LW reversed, low equivalent series inductor (ESL) multi-layer ceramic capacitor (MLCC) has a capacitance value of 1.0 microF ±20 per cent for 4VDC-rated automotive applications. The 0204 capacitor has a footprint of 0.5 x 1.0mm and maximum thickness of just 0.22mm.

The LLC152D70G105ME01 MLCC can be implemented on the back of a processor package, contributing to lower impedance of a power supply line, explains Murata. It can also sit close to the main processor on the motherboard.

Compared to standard MLCCs, the LW reverse construction flips the electrodes through 90 degrees so they are positioned on the long side of the rectangular chip. This construction reverses the length-to-width ratio, providing effective noise suppression in high frequency applications.

The MLCC has been developed in response to the continued evolution of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and eventually autonomous vehicles. These applications require high performance ICs for in-vehicle equipment. To stabilise these ICs, more focus is being put on lowering the power supply lines’ impedance. Murata says that its proprietary thin layer technology for ceramic elements and thin-sheet formation technology, used in the LLC152D70G105ME01 LW reversed, low ESL chip MLCCs are effective for achieving a low-impedance design.

Murata manufactures electronic components, modules, and devices. The company’s complete range includes ceramic capacitors, resistors or thermistors, inductors or chokes, timing devices, buzzers, sensors and EMI suppression filters. The company is known as a global ceramic capacitor manufacturer, and is also active in Bluetooth and WiFi modules, board-mount DC/DC converters and is also a manufacturer of standard and custom AC/DC power supplies.

The company was established in 1944 and is headquartered in Japan. It has European offices in Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
