Oscillator achieves accuracy over industrial temperature range

Designed for precision time keeping, Epson’s RA8900 automotive DTCXO real-time clock (RTC) uses digitally temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (DTCXO) technology to achieve ±3.4 parts per million at the temperature range of -40 to +85 degree C (or nine seconds per month).

Epson’s RA8900 includes an integrated crystal and features low power of 0.7 micro A (typical) back-up current. The high accuracy is essential for precise time keeping, as required by car clocks, infotainment, battery management, and other automotive applications.

To keep the time counter running even at main power failure, Epson’s RA8900 supply voltage of 2.5 to 5.5V can detect the loss of main power source and automatically switch to a back-up supply from a battery or super-capacitor with a supply voltage of 1.6 to 5.5V.

The RA8900 is offered in a small package measuring 3.2 x 2.5 x 1.0mm3 and is manufactured on a dedicated automotive line. It meets all applicable automotive quality standards, assures Epson, including AEC-Q200 grade 3, ISO9001, and TS16949.

Epson has a portfolio that ranges from inkjet printers and digital printing systems to 3LCD projectors, watches and industrial robots. The company is focused on driving innovations and exceeding customer expectations in inkjet, visual communications, wearables and robotics.
