Portable tactical SatCom system weighs less than 1kg
Elbit Systems has launched the E-LynX-Sat compact satellite communications (SatCom) add-on system. E-LynX-Sat comprises of compact portable terminals and a Hub base station that is installed in satellite ground stations. The terminal weighs less than 1kg and interfaces with Elbit Systems’ E-LynX software defined radio (SDR). E-LynX-Sat enables infantry and manoeuvring forces to maintain robust and secured, voice and data communication services, over hundreds of kms while they are on the move.
“Until now, this capability required the use of costly and heavy SatCom equipment that did not interface smoothly with tactical radio or command and control systems, limiting their adoption and effectiveness”, observed Oren Sabag, a senior vice president at Elbit Systems C4I and Cyber Division.
E-LynX-Sat integrates miniature phased-array antennae, a satellite communication modem, beam steering and error correction software as well as data compression protocols. It uses standard Ka and Ku-band geostationary satellites and features automatic electronic satellite tracking and direct sequence spread spectrum, to enable continuous over the horizon operations on-the-move.
It is designed as an add-on solution to improve operational effectiveness of troops using the E-LynX SDR”, added Sabag.
