Schaffner debuts RFI filters for IEC inlets
Schaffner has released a series of RFI filters built into IEC C14 and C20 inlets.
The dual-stage high-performance FN 9255 filter series is an addition to the existing FN 92XX family and has been developed for applications that need to handle high frequencies of 30MHz and above. The FN 9255 is the first power inlet designed by Schaffner to operate up to 300 MHz.
Schaffner claims exceptional attenuation performance for the filters from 150kHz to 300MHz owing to the use of a dual-stage design. The filtered inlets offer high saturation resistance and excellent thermal behaviour, says the company.
In terms of dimensions, the only difference compared to an existing Schaffner IEC inlet is a slightly increased length. As a result, the FN 9222, FN 9233, FN 9244 and recently introduced FN 9255 all fit in the same cut out. This lets designers exchange inlet filters if the system requires higher performance than is provided by one of the basic models.
The filtered inlets support a wide range of applications owing to the inclusion of approximately 100 different filter types in the range. The inlets on offer include versions designed for medical applications, either with or without an earth line choke. The medical versions comply with the requirements of IEC/EN 60601-1 for creepage and clearance, leakage current and high potential testing
Another model is a rear-mount version that uses a press-in nut to support reliable assembly without making the design of the system chassis more complex. Also covered are designs for household appliances as well as for audio and video equipment.
The filters have full international safety approvals, including UL 60939-3, IEC 60939-3 and CQC. The products are CE marked and are compatible with the RoHS II (2015/863) directive.
