Siglent refines its image with 12-bit vertical resolution oscilloscope

Acknowledging that eight-bit oscilloscopes are often insufficient to record the vertical resolution required to analyse signal anomalies in power electronics, medical technology, or the IoT, Siglent has introduced the SDS2000X HD oscilloscope.

A device with 12-bit ADC provides 16x more resolution, said the company, which produces “significantly lower” quantisation error. The improvement in resolution supports the analysis of the smallest signal details.

The ADCs have a maximum sampling rate of 2Gsamples per second and the oscilloscopes in the SDS2000X HD range have four analogue input channels, two ADCs and two 200Mpt acquisition memories. With four activated channels, the minimum sampling rate is 1Gsamples per second and memory depth is 100Mpacket per channel. The devices are available in bandwidths of 100, 200 and 350MHz. If more bandwidth is required, a bandwidth upgrade option is available to expand two independent channels to 500MHz.

The oscilloscopes also include zone trigger, counter, totaliser, mask test, history with search functions, FFT analysis with up to two million points, serial bus triggering and decoding for I2C, UART, SPI, LIN and CAN.

Optional decoding protocols include I2S, CAN FD, FlexRay, MIL1553, SENT and Manchester. For MSO/digital logic functionality, users can add Siglent’s SPL2016 hardware and the appropriate software to add 16 digital measurement channels.

The sequence mode increases the waveform capture rate up to 500,000 wfm per second. This reduces the dead time of the oscilloscope by a factor of approximately five compared to “normal mode” and enables the developer to find rare signal anomalies more quickly.

The integrated Bode plot function, together with the optional 25MHz function generator, enables frequency analysis without additional investment in external instruments. (Bode plots measure the phase and gain margin of feedback systems to determine the stability of the design of switched-mode power supplies.)

A power analysis option enables the user to perform the most important measurements automatically and helps to determine the required power supply properties. The higher resolution increases the accuracy of the power analysis measurement and thus the analysis capability, said the company. There are also current clamps and differential voltage probes available as options to customise a switch-mode power supply design.

The oscilloscopes are equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen and they can also be operated via a mouse and keyboard are supported. Remote control is also possible, via the built-in web server.
