Smartrac shrinks RFID tags in dry and paper-tag formats
At NRF 2019 (13 to 15 January), Smartrac introduced Eagle, the company’s latest RAIN RFID product. It is also claimed to be the smallest retail-orientated inlay with global performance available. It is available in dry and paper-tag formats. The Eagle inlays and tags are compact, measuring just 44 x 28mm (1.7 x 1.1 inch).
Eagle’s NXP UCODE 8 IC shares memory size and typical IC features with the widely used and proven NXP UCODE 7 IC. The UCODE 8 has an automatic adjustment function (self adjust) that optimises the chip’s sensitivity to gain maximum performance in different environments. This optimisation is performed at start-up and is enabled in the default chip configuration delivered by NXP. There is also an integrated Brand Identifier function to prove product authenticity and a memory safeguard system to protect business data.
In addition to the compact Eagle inlays and tags, Smartrac is further extending its RAIN RFID portfolio by launching new UCODE 8 based versions of its successful Midas FlagTag and MiniWeb product lines. The Midas FlagTag uses an Impinj Monza R6 IC and is described as a cost-efficient, high-performance tag for metallic surfaces and everyday objects. MiniWeb inlays are designed especially for clothing and can easily be converted into small-sized hangtags and other apparel labels.
Like all applicable transponders manufactured by Smartrac, Eagle, Midas FlagTag and MiniWeb with NXP UCODE 8 also benefit from the capabilities of Smart Cosmos, which enables full traceability of RFID products. Smartrac’s IoT platform records and manages a set of unique transponder data (e.g. UID number, order number, batch number or yield) at production level in a controlled and secure way.
Smartrac provides RFID products and IoT solutions, both ready-made and customised offerings. Its portfolio is used in an array of applications such as animal identification, automation, automotive, brand experience, industry, library and media management, laundry, logistics, retail, supply chain management and many more. The company has R&D centres and production and sales network to embed intelligence into physical products.
