Smiths Interconnect launches space-ready circulators and loads

High power WR75 waveguide circulators and loads have been launched by Smiths Interconnect for next-generation space applications.

The SpaceNXT Ku series of high power WR75 circulators and loads is part of the offering from Smiths Interconnect, designed to create a broad range of readily accessible space-qualified waveguide isolators, circulators, terminations, transitions, hybrids and couplers operating within assigned frequency bands from X to V-Band.

The SpaceNXT Ku series of circulators and loads is specifically designed for MEO/GEO satellites and offered with recognised testing sequences in order to reduce delivery times and overall cost of ownership.

Testing is performed in compliance with general space qualification flow, incorporating industry standard power and environmental requirements.

The Ku series currently consists of the WR75 model, covering key performance characteristics at frequency bands from 10.7 to 12.75GHz. The devices demonstrate low and stable insertion loss characteristics under maximum power. They are sealed for EMC and constructed with a low-mass aluminum housing with chromate finish.

Paul Harris, vice president of sales and marketing, Smiths Interconnect, said: “With the SpaceNXT initiative we are creating a more streamlined purchasing experience by shifting the product testing responsibility from the customer to us”.

Smiths Interconnect has design experience, analysis tools and test equipment to qualify and produce flight-tested products that demonstrate compliance with customer requirements and national space agency standards.

Smiths Interconnect provides electronic components, subsystems, microwave and radio frequency products that connect, protect and control critical applications in the commercial aviation, defence, space, medical, rail, semiconductor test, wireless telecommunications, and industrial markets.

Smiths Interconnect is part of Smiths Group, a global technology group delivering products and services for the medical, security and defence, general industrial, energy and space & commercial aerospace markets worldwide. Smiths Group employs approximately 22,000 people in over 50 countries.
