Software’s transfer function for cross-spectral analysis of broadband signals

Audio Precision has released APx software version 5.0 which adds transfer function measurement to enable cross-spectral analysis of arbitrary, broadband signals.

The function allows users to measure the transfer function of electronic audio and electroacoustic devices using any broadband signal. Release 5.0 also enables electronic activation of software option licenses, eliminating the iButton requirement which was used for such options with earlier versions of APx audio measurement software.

The transfer function measurement provides the complex frequency response function for a device, including the magnitude and phase (or real and imaginary components), using any broadband signal. This addition to APx software’s Sequence Mode, allows any APx analyser to be used as a multi-channel dynamic signal analyser or as a dual-channel FFT analyser. This transfer function used with any broadband signal, including speech, music, or noise, means that users can now assess the complex frequency response, coherence, and impulse response of a device or system, explains Audio Precison. The transfer function provides gapless and overlapped analysis of multiple acquisitions. It also includes a signal-based triggering that eliminates the need for a pilot tone in open-loop test applications, making it suitable for testing so-called smart audio devices.

Release 5.0 marks the move by Audio Precision to adopt a software licensing model that reflects the added value of new capabilities. From December 2018, new APx analysers (B series or Legacy) will ship with version 5.0 software and one year of software maintenance. This effectively licenses that instrument for APx version 6.0 when it is released, as well as any minor releases that occur between versions 5.0 and 6.0. Customers who purchased an APx analyser in 2018 are entitled to a complimentary license for version 5.0. Options for extended software maintenance are also available.

Release 5.0 is now shipping with all new APx audio analysers and is compatible with all analysers in the APx500 Series. An APx KeyBox is required to run v5.0 on Legacy APx analysers and a KeyBox is shipped with all new Legacy systems.
