Switching regulators are in Recom’s 3D Power Packaging

Switching regulators by Recom have increased the output current of the RPMH series by a factor of three, without increasing the size.

The company has used its 3D Power Packaging to achieve the gain in the RPMH-1.5 high input voltage switching regulator range. The non-isolated switching regulators range from 0.5A to 1.5A in a tiny 12.19 x 12.19 x 3.75mm package. The high-efficiency parts are available with trimmable outputs at nominal 3.3, 5.0, 12, 15 and 24V.

Inputs for each type can range up to 60V DC, and operating temperature is as high as 100 degrees C with no derating. It can be higher still at reduced power, advises the company.

Features include on/off control, remote sensing, a power good signal, and protection against output short-circuits, over-current, and over-voltage. The switching regulators also meet EN55032 class B EMI limits with a simple external filter.

The advance in power handling of the RPMH-1.5 is enabled by Recom’s 3D Power Packaging techniques resulting in a 25-pad land grid array (LGA) package with six-sided shielding for optimal EMC and thermal performance.

Evaluation boards are also available.

Commenting on the three-fold increase in current rating, Matthew Dauterive, DC/DC product manager at Recom said: “This improvement opens up a much wider range of applications for the product. The wide input range, up to 60V, will be particularly attractive for 48V systems or applications such as automotive where high voltage surges can occur”.

Recom Power manufactures a range of standard and customised DC/DC and AC/DC converters in every power class from sub 1W to tens of kW, alongside switching regulators and LED drivers in a wide selection of formats.

The company headquarters are located in Gmunden, Austria, and include a logistics research and development centre and laboratory wing. It is supported by a worldwide distribution network.
