Temperature sensor extends range to 300 degrees C

A ceramic sleeve, filled with a ceramic, is used for the K525 NTC temperature sensor that has been released by TDK. The sensor is suitable for applications under harsh operating conditions and is resistant to aggressive media such as acids and bases, says the company.

The Epcos K525 is designed for the extended measuring range from -10 to +300 degree C. The ceramic sleeve ensures that the sensor is suitable for applications under harsh operating conditions and is resistant to aggressive media such as acids and bases, explains TDK. The response time is only 1.2 seconds, allowing measurements to be made even with fast temperature changes. The resistance at 25 degrees C is about 48.5kOmega, at 100 degrees C about 3.3kOmega, and the B value (20/100) is nearly 4000K.

Electrically, the sensor is designed for a high level of safety and passes a high-voltage test at 4kV AC that results in a maximum leakage current of just 0.1mA, claims TDK. The combination of its wide measuring range and a rugged ceramic enclosure allows the sensor to be used in a variety of applications in industrial and automotive electronics as well as household appliances.

TDK is an electronics company, based in Tokyo, Japan with a portfolio of passive components such as ceramic, aluminum electrolytic and film capacitors, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices. The products include sensors and sensor systems such as temperature and pressure, magnetic, and MEMS sensors as well as power supplies and energy devices and magnetic heads. Product brands include TDK, Epcos, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda.
