Through-hole inductor saves space in renewable energy applications

Able to deliver a 420A saturation current for a 30 per cent inductance reduction in a compact 1500 case size, the Vishay Dale IHXL-1500VZ-51 also offers very low typical DCR, says the company.

The through-hole inductor can be used for renewable energy, industrial and telecomms applications. Inductance is 0.68 to 3.3 microH and DCR is down to 0.12mOhm. Continuous high temperature operation to +155 degrees C.

The device has a shielded, composite construction which enables a compact size of 38.1 x 38.1 x 21.9mm to support up to 150A of continuous DC current. As a result, the IHXL-1500VZ-51 can replace much larger devices in high current input filters and DC/DC converters, not only in high temperature industrial and solar and wind power applications, but also switching regulators, differential mode and boost power factor correction chokes and telecomms base station power supplies.

The IHXL-1500VZ-51 handles high transient current spikes without hard saturation, offering soft saturation of 20 per cent at 195 per cent of rated current. The inductors are RoHS-compliant and halogen-free, and provide high resistance to thermal shock, moisture, and mechanical shock.

Samples and production quantities of the IHXL-1500VZ-51 are available now, with lead times of eight to 10 weeks.
