Transmission speed sensor ICs carry ASIL B certification

Allegro MicroSystems Europe describes the A19520, A19530, and A19570 magnetic sensor ICs as its most advanced transmission speed sensor family members. The sensor ICs carry ASIL B certification, the automotive safety integrity level (or ISO 26262) that assesses the level of hazard in vehicle operation systems.

The A19520, A19530, and A19570 magnetic sensor ICs are suitable for meeting the requirements of today’s transmission applications.

They are claimed to be the only transmission speed sensors available designed to a certified ISO 26262 design process. The three sensors measure speed and direction information and integrate EMC protection capacitors.

The sensors also incorporate Allegro’s SolidSpeed Digital Architecture, a mixed-signal architecture claimed to enable the widest dynamic range of air gap, distinction of vibration versus rotation, stray field immunity, and highly adaptive performance.

The A19520 allows compatibility with existing transmission designs, due to what are claimed to be an industry-leading performance and selectable output protocols. It uses Hall-effect technology and a two-wire interface.

The A19530 provides advanced signal processing, open/short detection capability, and selectable speed or speed and direction output protocols. It also uses Hall-effect technology and a three-wire interface.

Using giant magnetoresistance (GMR) and a two-wire interface, the A19570 brings the same high algorithmic performance as its Hall-effect counterparts but at significantly larger air gaps and with flexible device orientations, explains Allegro.

Allegro says it is the market leader in magnetic sensor ICs, delivering nearly 900 million magnetic sensor ICs annually.

Allegro MicroSystems Europe, headquartered in Chertsey, United Kingdom, is the European sales and marketing operation, and operates a network of representatives and distributors throughout Europe. Allegro has a technical and marketing centre in Heidelberg in Germany. Allegro also has an engineering design centre in Edinburgh in Scotland and a technical and marketing centre in Annecy in France.
