Compact fine pitch cable-to-board connector saves PCB space

Adding to the M40 series of connectors, Harwin has announced the M40 connector with phosphor bronze contacts that are rated for currents of up to 1A. The lightweight, low profile 1.0mm pitch units are the smallest in the company’s portfolio of cable-to-board connectors. They have been developed specifically for use where densely populated PCBs are stacked closely together.

The M40 connectors are available in both single and double row options, with vertical and horizontal surface mount configurations for the shrouded male headers. This versatility enables the connector series to serve an array of layout requirements. Pre-cabled female contacts are available off-the-shelf, with complete cable assembly layouts on request. Harwin says that this enables customers to avoid making heavy investment on crimp tooling, as well as the associated training and procedural planning that goes with it. Harwin says that, as a result, these connectors will prove particularly attractive for prototyping or small volume runs.

Supporting 50 mate/un-mate cycles, the M40 connectors have an insulation resistance of 100-MOhm and cover an operational temperature range of -25 to +85 degree C. They are intended for industrial control/monitoring, communications infrastructure, industrial drives and consumer electronics.

They are supplied in either tube packaging or a tape-and-reel format for automated production processes.

Harwin produces high-reliability connectors for the defence, aerospace, space, industrial, oil and gas and motorsport sectors. Over the course of the last 65 years, the company has set benchmarks in terms of innovation, automation and service, through ongoing investment in advanced equipment and the training of its staff.

Harwin’s team of highly skilled engineers has been responsible for developing products such as the Gecko (1.25mm pitch), Datamate (2mm pitch), Mix-Tek (combined signal, power and coax) and high temperature M300 (3mm pitch) product lines.

The company also offers EMI/RFI shielding, a comprehensive portfolio PCB hardware (spacers, links, bridges, terminals, test points) and a broad range of industry standard connectors.

Harwin’s products are available with short lead times via its sales and distribution network.
