Recom launches DC/DC converters for cost-effective rail projects

Equipped with a wide input range of 36 to 160V DC, the RPxx-RAW is a range of isolated, regulated converters for railway applications. Recom has introduced the DIP24 DC/DC converters for rail applications which typically operate from 72, 96, or 110V DC nominal input with dips and surges. The company said the RPxx-RAW is cost-effective and covers a wide input range of 36 to 160V DC input (200V for one second) with single and dual outputs of 3.3, 5.0, 12, 15, 24, ±5V, ±12V, and ±15V. Models in the range are the RP03-RAW series, rated at 3W output, the RP06-RAW, rated at 6W and the RP10-RAW, rated at 10W. All parts are in a common through-pin encapsulated DIP24 industry-standard format with dimensions of 31.8 x 20.3mm and a height of 10.6mm.

The RPxx-RAW series incorporates advanced circuit and thermal design techniques for high efficiency and low internal temperature rises, said Recom. The design enables operation at high ambient temperatures at full load and convection cooled without derating of 90 degrees C for the 3W part, 85 degrees C for the 6W part and 75 degrees °C for the 10W part. With derating, all parts operate up to 105 degrees C. Full protection is included against input under-voltage, over-temperature, output over-voltage, short circuits and over-current. A shutdown control is also provided.

The isolation rating for the parts is reinforced 3kV AC and the parts are certified to EN50155 as well as IEC/EN/UL62368 and the Canadian equivalent. EN55032 class A EMC specification is met without additional components while class B level can be met with the addition of three small, external capacitors, advised Recom.

In addition to railways, the DC/DC converters can be used in wider industry where higher supply voltages are seen, such as in battery management systems, electric forklift trucks, and IoT sensors, advised Matthew Dauterive, Recom’s DC/DC product manager.

of RECOM. “They could also be used in”.

Parts are covered by a three-year warranty. Samples, and OEM pricing are available from all authorised distributors or directly from Recom.
